Xiaomi’s YU7 Dominates China’s EV Market, Outselling Tesla Model Y 2-to-1 in January
Xiaomi's electric vehicle division has delivered a seismic shift in China's automotive landscape. The YU7 SUV claimed top honors in January sales with 37,869 units sold—more than double Tesla's Model Y deliveries of 16,845 units. This marks a dramatic reversal from December when Tesla led the market.
The Chinese tech giant has achieved 600,000 cumulative EV deliveries since its 2024 launch, with over 400,000 units sold in 2025 alone. Despite a broader slowdown in China's EV sector, Xiaomi moved 39,000 vehicles this January. The company now targets 550,000 sales for 2026.
Tesla's precipitous drop from first to twentieth place overall highlights the intensifying competition in the world's largest EV market. Xiaomi's aggressive pricing strategy and local market understanding appear to be reshaping consumer preferences at breakneck speed.
